Amir Khan is already looking two fights ahead of himself as he has picked out the fighter he wants to take on in defence of his WBA light-welterweight title. Khan, who is preparing to take on Zab Judah on 23rd July wants to take on the winner of the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz fight, which takes place on 17th September.
Khan remains focussed on Judah, but we all know how ambitious he is since he burst onto the scene. On interview he said: "Having ambitions in life pushes and drives you on. I'm hoping to get Zab Judah out of the way and then get one more fight at the end of the year. Then hopefully I’ll move up to welterweight and take on somebody like Mayweather."
The Bolton-born boxer has fought Victor Ortiz before as an amateur, coming out on top in that bout, but he would be happy enough to take him on again as a professional.
Khan is plenty good enough to take on Floyd Mayweather, or Victor Ortiz, and providing he comes through his fight with Judah victorious, he’ll be in a position where his record warrants a fight with somebody like Mayweather who, no doubt, will be spurred on by the chance to take on Amir Khan early in 2012.
The fight would ideally be in the UK, which hasn’t staged a fight of the calibre of the potential Khan-Mayweather clash for a number of years now.
