Former world champion Enzo Maccarinelli needed just 91 seconds to win his first light-heavyweight match against Gyorgy Marosi, ending the bout with a crushing left hook.
The Welshman was fighting at this level for the first time having made the step down from cruiserweight level in order to rebuild his stop-start career, and an accurate combination of punches simply added to the devastating blow, forcing the referee to bring the fight to a premature end.
The 31-year old brought an end to Marosi’s 12-0 record, and the Hungarian looked horribly out of depth in this match at the York Hall, just his second fight outside his home country. Maccarinelli looked as though he’d never been out of the ring, however, it was his first match in 14-months, and he has now potentially set up a bout with Ovill McKenzie for the Commonwealth light-heavyweight championship, or an all-Welsh fight with unbeaten WBO champ Nathan Cleverly.
