Frank Bruno has spoken out about how recently he was stopped by police on suspicion of stealing his own car.
The True Brit and former WBC heavyweight champion told of how he was stopped in his car which has a personalised number plate and asked to produce documents – with the two officers from Hertfordshire police citing a recent spate of thefts of high performance cars in the area.
Frank understandably didn’t find the incident all that funny and certainly not as funny as the two officers who soon realised their mistake. They almost immediately recognised him but in an attempt to give them no hassle, the boxing legend handed over the documents and the officers conducted their investigation for an entire 10 minutes before letting the former champion on his way again.
Frank was clear that his irritation wasn’t with the police force as a whole because he was quick to point out that many of his local officers are “as good as gold” but really these two youngsters should have known better.
Frank was asked very forwardly if he has “nicked” the car and at first, he thought they were joking and that some kind of TV prank was being pulled on him but then he realised how serious the police were.
To be frank, the two officers are lucky that nobody seems to have passed comment on what could be perceived as a racially motivated stop.
The Hertfordshire police force offered a typically stock response claiming that they have yet to hear of the incident and they urge anyone involved to come to them without delay in order for them to deal with the incident appropriately and continue to serve the public.
